We all feel a bit fed up, overwhelmed, angry or sad when we have to stay in again. We are heading towards a second lockdown as the COVID-19 numbers rise.
We understand that staying in is the best for us and for everybody else; however, we cannot rationalise our feelings. If we are upset, we are upset, and that`s the emotion that we must deal with.
There are many useful tips about staying positive, and I gave you some tips earlier this year. You can still benefit from taking up a new hobby, reading books, writing a gratitude journal and limiting your social media and news intake.
To change or lift your mood, we need to find the positives in the situation.
‘But I`m fed up,’ you could shout, and you can, but then it is time to concentrate on the positive side of staying in.
Write down, yes, make a list of all positives of this situation, such as staying in pyjama bottoms or not using your alarm clock. You get to rest, have a cup of tea whenever you want. How can you fill the time you spent travelling every day? Maybe doing some crunches or squats.
Social distancing means physical distancing only. It does not stop you from reaching for your phone! Keep in touch with friends and family.
Focus on what is actually happening with you: if you have a roof over your head and food on your table, you are luckier than most people on this planet. If not, please ask for help—no need to be ashamed of reaching out.
It’s okay not to be positive all the time. Give yourself a break. Watch that movie, read that book. Don`t be too hard on yourself for not doing the dishes; they will be there, waiting for you. You can organise your time now; you are in control. You are in control of your mood, work, activities, free time and relaxation. Yes, this is the time to claim control back over your life.
If you want to use the photo it would also be good to check with the artist beforehand in case it is subject to copyright. Best wishes.
