What happens in therapy?

You have probably clicked on my site because you are feeling low, stressed out, anxious, guilty, or overwhelmed with some other emotions. You might not understand your own reactions; and you are asking yourself, where are they coming from? Why can`t I control my emotions? Maybe you are feeling lonely… helpless… And you might question your own worth. You don`t see a solution, and there is no consolation. Overwhelming feelings and emotions drag you down, and you feel like you are losing your true self.

Yes, life is not always easy. We all have to face some obstacles and fight our own demons. Nobody is perfect, nobody leads a stress-free life.

However, these obstacles can be seen as challenges. Challenges that pursue our best self to achieve goals, overcome difficulties and by doing so, we can emerge as a more confident, content and happy person. We can build on these achievements, we can build on those obstacles that covered our road. We can use them to learn about ourselves and use the knowledge for our own advantage, and to work towards a more content life.

When you come to therapy, we aim to discover your true feelings, emotions and thoughts. We try to step away, take a distance from the difficulties and look at them with an objective eye. We search for meaning and goals in your life, and when we find them, you will discover your true self. This journey involves your past, your present and your future. You are made of your past, you behave in the present, and you work for the future that you want.

When you start the therapy, we talk. We talk about you. It is not a conversation between friends, where you both tell your own stories, but nobody actually listens. I listen. The therapeutic hour is about you! It is about you discovering your values, examining your strength and authentic self. Maybe you pick up some new ways of thinking, perhaps you find out that flexibility is vital in planning and living a content life.

I have an integrative approach to therapy. It means that I personalise the treatment and use methods that I find the most suitable for you. I combine hypnosis with other forms of therapies, like CBT or Gestalt.

We often start the therapy with learning coping methods; but, ideally, therapy goes further than coping. Discussing the issues and understanding the feelings that they generate is essential to find your peace!

Therapy can be short-term or lengthy, depending on the issue, the emotions and, most importantly, what you want from the therapy.   

Self-care involves body and mind. Looking after your body means a healthy diet, regular exercise, regular health check-ups, plenty of sleep and we can continue the list with our own preferences.

How do you look after your mind? By finding your true self, your actual values, goals and living according to them.

Accepting of being vulnerable and reaching for help is the best way to start. It is OK! You don`t have to be perfect, nobody is perfect! It is OK to let go of your guard!

Finding your own ground, your own worth and letting go of being terrified about what people might think, leads to self-worth and self-confidence.
